We’ve been spending a bit more time at restaurants the past few months as life has gotten busier. It also happens that our daytime base (aka office) is now outside of our home on the East Side. Being creatures of habit, we tend to stick to a handful of restaurants at a time and go on an inevitable repeat.
In current rotation in East Austin are:
in.gredients
2610 Manor Road
This may be my most favorite spot in town right now! The 9yo and I like to head over for an after school snack to kick off our weekends and it’s becoming a regular gathering place for book club meetings, mid-day working sessions, and food swaps. There are plenty of veggie-friendly snacks in the case – quiches, mmmpanadas, Red Rabbit Bakery vegan donuts (Saturday-Sunday), East Side Pies slices and much, much more. You can round your meal out with some local fruit from their produce section, coffee, tea, beer and/or wine.
Mr. Natural
1901 E. Cesar Chavez
Tex-Mex is a way of life for locals and I can’t go much more than 3-4 days without a dose. The menu is 100% vegetarian with vegan options throughout. Daily lunch specials give you veg-friendly versions of classics like albondigas, guisada, picadillo, and tamales; all fantastic. Off the menu, I’d have to say that my favorite is the taco salad. Oh! And don’t leave without trying their aguas frescas.
Mi Madre’s
2201 Manor Road
They have great tacos, but we love to head over when we are in the mood to have breakfast with forks and plates. They have THE BEST vegetarian migas plate in town. Hands down. Their vegetarian refried beans can go head-to-head with the best Tex-Mex spots in town (veg or not) and the migas plate portion is large enough to share between two people. Weekends are busy, but not impossible. Weekdays are nice and quiet… if that’s more your style.
