cantaloupe agua fresca | a recipe template

My impatience got the best of me and I sliced into a cantaloupe before it was ready to eat. I knew immediately that it would have to go straight into the blender with some sweetener for popsicles and agua fresca. No complaints here, as they are both amongst my favorite summertime treats.

Agua Fresca
1 cup of pureed fruit
1 cup of water
1-2 tablespoons of preferred sweetener

Place all ingredients in a pitcher or jar and mix thoroughly.
Pour over ice and enjoy.

I usually throw all the ingredients into a quart-size mason jar, adding honey only if my fruit isn’t sweet. I’ll most often make aguas frescas with melons in the summer because we have to eat our way through so many pounds of the fruit. You can make them with any type of fruit puree though. Mango and other tropical fruits work well and I imagine peaches and/or nectarines would be yummy, too.

P.S. You can make a big batch of fruit puree for these and enjoy the leftover puree in an agua fresca while you wait for them to freeze.
